The Build-A-Beast program is a simple variation from Bob Popovics Beast Fleye combined with inspiration from Blane Chocklett’s Game Changer flies. The Art of Stripping Streamers – Flymen Fishing Blog

There is a cool article over on the Flymen Fishing Blog written by Steve Dally of Dally’s Ozark Fly Fisher fly shop in Arkansas. He guides on the White River where some big brown trout reside.

“Your fly boxes are crammed full after hours watching videos while tying at the vise — heck, you probably know more about Brian Wise’s hands at this stage than his wife does.”

Attention: FrankenFly Fly Orders

Hi all, I will need to be focusing on tying flies for fly fishing shows coming up, so FrankenFly fly orders are going to be running behind. Please keep this in mind if you want to order. I am still working on some recent orders to get caught up.

Thank you!

Balanced Minnow (Fathead) – Phil Rowley

From Phil:
“If you are looking for a great minnow pattern to work in and around shoreline structure give one of my Balanced Minnows a shot

This particular version is targeted at imitating fathead minnows a species that is widespread across North America.

Balanced flies such as such as this one work well suspended beneath one of my Quick Release Indicators in and around shoreline weeds and amongst weed pockets where fathead minnows love to hang out. This pattern, as with all balanced flies, is also an excellent cast and retrieve option. Using a floating, Midge Tip, clear intermediate or hover line in conjunction with a 4-6 slow strip-pause retrieve, trout and other game fish find the seductive jig of a stripped balanced fly tough to resist. ”

Materials list:

Balanced Minnow (Fathead)
Hook: Daiichi 4640 #10
Thread: MFC 8/0, White
Tail: MFC Barred Marabou, Olive/Black
Body: Arizona Simi Seal Fathead Minnow
Lateral Line: Crinkle Mirror Flash
Bead: Tungsten, 1/8”, Gold
Eyes: MFC Jurassic Eyes Gold/Red

Intruders Around the Net

Since it is November and I was thinking about Intruders, I thought I would post an “Intruders Around the Net”, just for fun. I put this together rather quickly, so if you know of some cool Intruders out there that I did not include here, let me know! Thank you and enjoy!

Freestyle Jig BUKLhead Craw – Gunnar Brammer

From Gunnar:
“The BULKhead Swimming Frog and Jig BULKhead Craw are intended as a quick two part series building off of the foundations presented in Part 1-3 of the Beginner Predator Flies Series. The beauty of the BULKhead platform is the ability to sculpt your profile allowing you to tailor it to match a wide range of forages. I hope these two patterns help to free your thinking as to the application of the BULKhead technique by presenting two very different forages, both a Frog and Crawfish, which are in stark contrast from one another, and even more so from the initial BULKhead presented in Part 2 of the series.”

Materials list:

Hook: Ahrex 60 Degree Bent Streamer Hook 2/0
Body: Short Scrappy Bucktail – Olive
Flash: Dyed Pearl Flashabou Accent – Orange
Hackles: Hareline’s Marabou Soft Hackle Patch – Olive
