Michigan’s Best Wet Fly

This fly tying video is from Tim Neal, who is a well respected fly tyer in northern Michigan.
Tim discusses and ties one of his favorite fly patterns. A pattern he refers to as being the best Michigan wet fly out there. Namely a variation of the wet skunk.

Faux Bucktail Flatwing

This fly tying video is brought to you by Flymen Fishing Company. Brian Wise is tying on the video.

“The Faux Bucktail Flatwing updates an old-school pattern with new-school materials. Replacing bucktail with Fish-Skull Faux Bucktail, adding a mixture of synthetic flash in different textures and colors, and topping it all off with a Fish-Mask brings the Flatwing into the 21st century.”

Fish or Die TV Show

There is a new fly fishing show on Animal Planet called Fish or Die. I have really enjoyed watching it and have my DVR set to record every new episode. If you love fly fishing, you should definitely check this out. Basically, four friends that are diehard fly fishermen, travel to remote places to catch awesome fish. I think my favorite episode so far is when they travel to Ecuador to the Amazon Jungle in search of Arapaima.
You can head over to the Animal Planet Fish or Die website to find out more. Enjoy!

Hidden BULKhead Hollow Fleye – Gunnar Brammer

From Gunnar:
“The Hidden Bulkhead Hollow Fleye is a lightweight, big profiled fly that is perfect for chasing Pike and Musky, as well as any large predatory gamefish. The Freestyle pattern is modeled after Bob Popovics Hollow Fly and finished with Popovics reverse Bulkhead Technique – Popovics has two fantastic tying resources: Pop Fleyes, and Fleye Design, which are highly recommended. This video focuses on the Hollow Fleye Technique of reverse tying, as well as the Hidden Bulkhead technique used to finish the head and create the proper silhouette and balance to the fly. Both techniques are excellent to know and have at the ready for tying up big predatory flies.”

Materials List:
Hook: Ahrex TP610 4/0
Thread: Flymaster Plus 210 Denier
Bucktail: White, Pink, and Chartreuse
Magnum Flashabou: Silver, Mint, Opal
Polar Flashabou: 2004 – Pink Pearl, and 2011 – Emerald Rainbow
