Flymen Sili-Leg Intruder

From the Flymen Fishing Company:
Want to tie a tough-as-nails steelhead pattern? The Flymen Sili-Leg Intruder is a completely synthetic Steelhead Intruder tied on the Fish-Skull Senyo’s Articulated Shank for Steelhead and Salmon Flies.

Intruder-style flies are designed to trigger aggressive strikes from steelhead by “intruding” on their territory and provoking an attack.

The movement of the bulletproof sili-leg skirt coupled with the the Kona Big Game Hunter stinger hook gives you an incredibly durable and deadly Intruder pattern.

Materials list:
Shank: Fish-Skull Senyo’s Articulated Shank for Steelhead and Salmon Flies, 40 mm, blue
Stinger Hook: Kona Big Game Hunter (BGH), size #1
Dubbing Ball: Seyno’s Fusion Dub
Skirt: Sili-Legs
Body: Flat Braid
Collar/Spreader: EP Tarantula Brush
Wing: Sili-Legs
Collar: Senyo’s Fusion Dub

Pike Fly with a Built-in Popper Head – Niklaus Bauer

From Niklaus:
“Some days when pike fly fishing, the difference between succeeding or not can be to fish a fly extremely slow that also stays 100% suspending in the stops. That’s why Niklaus Bauer created the original “Hover Fly” more than 10 years ago – a great pattern that has caught a lot of big fish but it hasn’t gotten too much attention in recent years. It was time to make the Hover Fly 2.0.”

Materials list:

Hook: Partridge Predator CS86 X 4/0, Partridge Z4 size 1 or Ahrex TP610 #4/0 and PR382 #1
Wire: Bauer pike wire titanium
Glue: Zap brush on, Epoxy, Gulff UV resin Classic
Thread: Textreme Power thread 100D
Tail Connection: Fastach size 0, 3mm bead glow in the dark
Tail: Dragon tail XL, Holo silver or Copper
Eyes: Epoxy eyes 5,5mm glow in the dark
Head: Brown Bucktail, Bauer’s Premium Nayat in Nightmare before Christmas, Flashabou in Copper, holo copper, Polarflash in Gold, Ripple ice fiber in copper and Peacook, Predatordubbing in J.K Craw
Tail: White Bucktail, Hedron Magnum Flashabou Opal Mirage, silver and Holo silver
Body: Polar Reflector flash in silver, Double barrel Popper medium White.

Signature Flies of Tim Neal

Tim Neal hails from Michigan and has been tying flies for 62 years. He is a well respected fly tyer in Michigan. Not only is he well versed and ties classic Michigan dry flies that are famous there, but he also designs his own fly patterns. Check out the three flies below that are available at Umpqua Feather Merchants and if you own a fly shop, you can’t go wrong by stocking up on some of Tim’s flies.
Below Tim briefly describes each fly.

Skopper

“My pet hopper pattern… I designed this by combing the best features of Madsen’s Skunk and Whitlock’s Hopper. I always liked Dave’s fly but found trimming the deer hair head to be a pain. My method of putting on the deer hair head is a 10-15 second procedure and you’re good to go. And those rubber legs attract fish. Dead drift or twitched, it’s a real fish catcher. I like a smaller one during low water, perhaps a #14 hopper hook.”

Neal Para Emerger

“This one came about because I like fur bodied flies best. Most emerger patterns have a shuck imitation but don’t truly capture the outline of the entire shuck with its cast abdomen and legs. The deer hair overlay flared at the bend on this fly does that very well and I believe is key to its effectiveness. Terrific fly dead drifted in any emergence tied in a wide variety of sizes and color combos.”

North Branch Drake

“An old pattern thought to be a caddis imitation. I greatly expanded on the original (medium deer hair, black thread, grizzly hackle) by lengthening the tail and using different shades of deer hair as well as different thread colors and hackle to imitate lots of bugs. I’ve discovered over the years that it works equally well for stones, caddis, and mayflies during an emergence. It’s best fished with the hackle trimmed and dead drift. I really believe this fly is the all time sleeper of Michigan dry flies.”
