Join the Bucket Mouth League revolution!

bucketmouthleague-cols3-500a

So, finally, after a long winter, it’s that time of year to be thinking about the Bucket Mouth League! Get out there and start catching those beautiful big mouths on the fly.

Last year I started the Bucket Mouth League with some simple rules. If you missed the initial post, you can read it here. I was very pleased with the response I received and we are off to a great start! But it was late in the season last year when the Bucket Mouth League began. I have very high hopes that this year we will make even bigger strides. I’ve seen growth especially in Instagram followings. The use of the #bucketmouthleague hashtag has over 300 posts. This is AWESOME!

So don’t forget to use our hashtag whenever you post a largemouth you caught on the fly on any of the social media apps that are available.

How do you enter the Bucket Mouth League? Simple, if you love fly fishing for largemouth bass you are automatically in the league. It’s that easy. Be sure to follow the link I provided in the sentence above because it explains the details clearly.

Spreading the love and passion for catching largemouth bass on the fly is what this league is all about.

Smallmouth bass, trout, muskie, and carp have their followings and are beloved in the fly fishing world. It’s time for largemouth bass to get that same love and respect from fly fishers.

So get out there and fly fish for bucket mouths and don’t be afraid to let other fly fishers know what your passion is.

Bucket Mouth League!

Bucket Mouth League – photo contest entries

I really appreciate all of the entries that were sent in for our first photo contest. I know it was late in the season and the decal wasn’t the best thing to have as part of a photo opportunity, but it was fun, so that’s all the matters.

Below are the Bucket Mouth League Photo Contest entries. Please send an email to frankenflycontests@gmail.com and vote on your favorite or the one you think deserves to win. I placed a number in front of each one, so please include that number when saying what your vote is in the email. They are in no specific order. Anyone can vote, but only vote one time please.  I will announce the winner Thursday, October 22nd, so please get your vote in by Wednesday. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, so good luck to everyone!

#1 – Kyle Schmer

I have made a popper with a miniature Bucket Mouth League Decal. You can see it in front.

#4 – Jeff Price

This is my lineup for chasing bucketmouths.  I am a huge fan of top water.  Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats top water fly fishing for bass.  Here you have an assortment of size 4 pencil poppers, tapered cupped and slotted poppers as well as some size 2 foam divers.

#5 – Davin Topel

Just moved to Austin, Tx from Park city, UT where I fished the Provo and Weber River. I got into fly fishing for bass since moving here.  I Found your website and had to join the league. I started tying these mouse patterns and they have been hitting them great at night. I lost 2 other monsters before this one. Anyways here is my entry for the contest. Love the website!

#6 – Daniel Seaman

Its a simple yet effective pattern for basically any species of predator fish. Its one of several versions of a craft fur minnow. I have taken a few existing minnow tying techniques and combined them to create this version. It only takes a few minutes to tie, and its very cost efficient. Craft fur looks great in the water on any fly, the natural taper to the hair makes it easy….However, the trick to this version is how to tie it on the hook to get it to act and look the way it does in the water. I will be doing a tutorial very soon, as I have had a lot of requests for one.

Here are my best producing (original) fly patterns for bass this season with a picture of my biggest fly caught bass of the summer (just shy of 5 lbs).

FrankenFly at Three Rivers Fly Fishers Club Meeting

FrankenFly_Mascot

I will be at the October 15th club meeting of the Three Rivers Fly Fishers in Fort Wayne, Indiana this Thursday. I want to thank them for inviting me up to speak and tie at their meeting. I’m really looking forward to it and look forward to meeting more of the folks in their club! See below the club’s newsletter excerpt for a little more detail.
-Paul

Paul Beel will be putting on the program for Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Classic Café. Paul will be talking about Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass Fishing in his area and tying up some Bass Flies. Paul has his own Fly Fishing/Fly Tying Business, FrankenFly, and I would encourage you to get on his website, www.frankenfky.com and check it out. It is a very interesting website and very, very, informative. I am sure he would love to take an order and drop it off on the 15th. I placed mine several months ago. Paul tied at our show last year and is a super nice guy, fly fisherman, fly tyer, fly designer, and family man.

(Also, I want to make a quick note that this Thursday is the final day to enter photos for the Bucket Mouth League photo contest. See this post for more.)

BML Photo Contest date extended!!

bucketmouthleague-cols3

I’ve decided to extend the date on the Bucket Mouth League Photo Contest to give everyone a little more time. As another fly fisher pointed out, the fall bite is about to be on, so it wouldn’t hurt to extend the date.

The new deadline for the photo contest is

October 15th, 2015

So now there is even more reason and no excuses for you not to enter the contest!

Check out the rules and announcement here!

Thanks for following FrankenFly!

2015 Bucket Mouth League Photo Contest

Welcome to the first official Bucket Mouth League Photo Contest! We are going to take a page from The Fiberglass Manifesto book and do a contest similar to the way Cameron has run some of his contests in the past. That said, let’s get started.

We have three great sponsors for this contest that have graciously offered three terrific prizes.
For first place, the winner will receive The Clouser rod of their choice from Temple Fork Outfitters.

Second place will receive a Mad River Outfitters Master Drifter Boat Box.

I want to thank Temple Fork Outfitters, Mad River Outfitters, and Crooked Creek Holler for sponsoring the Bucket Mouth League Photo Contest. I really appreciate their support! All of the people who I have dealt with in these three companies are top notch and have been very reliable supporters of FrankenFly.

THE RULES for the contest are as follows:
1. To participate you must submit a photo with a Bucket Mouth League decal included in the photo in some way. The photo can be while fly fishing, fly tying, or anything that you think might make an interesting BML photo.

2. If you do not have a Bucket Mouth League decal yet, you can order by clicking the link in rule 1.

3. Submit your Bucket Mouth League photo and a few lines explaining the photo by email to .

4. If you decide to include a largemouth bass in your photo, please handle it carefully. I would like to improve the quality in the way largemouth bass are handled. I have been guilty of this myself and I am now taking a stand to correct that. Please support the weight of the bass and not hold it by the jaw at a 45 degree angle or hold it vertical if it is a large bass. Do not lie the bass on hot boards, cement, or boat carpet. Wet your hands before handling the fish. Also, if the fish is out of the water for the photo, it has to be still dripping water. Otherwise, it’s been out of the water too long, and air exposure kills. Thank you.

5. This contest will last until October 15th, 2015. Entries need to be submitted by October 15th.

6. Entries will be posted in the first week of October and there will be an email vote by the FrankenFly readership to determine the winners.

If you have any questions please send an email to .

I’m really looking forward to this first opportunity to highlight the Bucket Mouth League with this photo contest. Please remember to use the hashtag #BucketMouthLeague when posting your photos of largemouth bass caught on the fly. Promote fly fishing for largemouth bass. That is what the Bucket Mouth League is all about!

Please read my original post about the Bucket Mouth League for more information.

THANK YOU!
