wrap, tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN
Scott Patterson has put together another very good step-by-step. Originally, a this was a Catskill stonefly/attractor from Phil Chase.
-
- mash barb, start thread, wrap back to point above barb; double over to create loop (in smaller sizes I’d just use split-thread)
-
-
-
-
-
-
- clean (this is where I got the underfur from), stack, measure (tips to bend) a clump of woodchuck guard hairs; tie in, trim butts (brush on some Sally to lock the wing in and cover with thread)
-
-
- divide the wing, lock with some x-wraps
-
-
- tie in hackles
-
- wrap, tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN
-
That’s a great fly but that ain’t no stealth bomber.

Not sure which came first, but it’s certainly not the first time the same name’s been used for different patterns.
