Flies by Pete Rosenau

Pete Rosenau has come up with several awesome fly patterns that I’ve noticed. I asked Pete to send me a couple with recipes to show to all of you on FrankenFly.
Here is a little about Pete and down below Pete explains his thoughts on each fly and provides the recipes. You can follow Pete on Instagram @blueriverflies.

“From the beginning of my fly fishing I knew tying flies was something I needed to try. It quickly turned into an obsession and has only grown since. I’m fully addicted to tying materials. Being a part owner of Spawn Fly Fish gives me access to the newest materials and really rejuvenates my mentality when it comes to design. I’m very excited about the future of fly fishing and tying. The lessons learned on or near the water can benefit anyone. What began with catching some trout on a fly rod has become a lifestyle. Not a bad way to be.”

Pete’s Articulated Stonefly

This fly was again designed around the Spawn Fly Fish micro Shanks. The thought being to automatically add movement to a large stonefly with a simple articulation that would give the illusion of struggling because of the trailing hook riding beneath the surface. The three stacks of foam and deer hair ensure floatation through even the toughest water. There is a full Step by Step tutorial on www.spawnflyfish.com

Olive Articulated Damsel

The idea behind this damsel was based around the Spawn micro shank. With the right combination of Furry Foam and the weight of the trailer you get a slowly sinking dry fly that only goes 6-8 inches below the surface. Any current or breeze gives the tail movement as well as when slowly stripped. I’ve always had more success with damsel flies after they had become saturated. Since it will sink I like to use this version on still waters. You can still see the fish chase it down near the surface. Use regular closed cell foam for a higher floating variation.
