Since the Hendrickson hatch will soon be upon us, I thought this video would be timely. Tim Neal hails from Michigan and has been tying flies for 62 years. Tim knows his stuff and is a great teacher. He ties his own deadly pattern for the famous Hendrickson hatch in this fly tying video!

Hendrickson Para Emerger
Great lesson on tying the Hendrickson para emerger. I used to tie it with lemon woodduck butI like the substitution of the traditional adams and coachman brown hackles. adaptation seems to be one of the key ingredients in the art of flytying. myself except for experimental attractor flies the key to the present is the past as they tell you in college geology. I have one pattern which has nothing original about it except the mixing of three flies into one. It works sometimes when nothing is hatching. I call it a ADAMS WULLF HOPPER . it is tied on a number 10 dry fly hook. the tail is fox squirrel; the body adams gray; the wing a oversized tip of a large grizzly hackle; and hopper upped deer or elk hair. on its inaugrel outting i caught a 14 inch rainbow on it at twelve noon. as my friend and and I say we threw out a steak and found a hungry trout!
James,
Thanks for your kind words. I agree ; there’s very little “new” (except materials) in fly tying. My Hendrickson is a combo of several different things. Sounds like you have found a hopper that works. Hopper season has become my favorite after many years of hatch matching. Of course, I have developed my “own” patten for that as well.
I have a YouTube channel you might like. Tying Michigans Best Trout Flies on YouTube.
Thanks again,
