Jelly Bean Zonker – Holger Lachmann

There is a new style of streamer that fly tyers have been experimenting with lately and it’s called the Jelly Bean Zonker. The original designer of this fly is Holger Lachmann, so I reached out to him and he sent me the story behind the Jelly Bean Zonker.

From Holger Lachmann:
“The story behind the Jelly Bean Zonker is very short. I was experimenting with uv resin and color pigments and glitter flakes. After some attempts, I had this little colorful two toned body which reminds me of a Jelly Bean. I wanted to create a fly with it and I have loved Zonker streamers for ages and so it was logical for me to combine the body with a nice Zonker strip and some sexy eyes.
The result was quite minimalistic, but also very sexy, at least in my eyes.

That was the birth of the Jelly Bean Zonker. I also tie a variation with a hackle collar, which looks also very nice. I got some very good feedback from friends, who fished the Jelly Bean Zonker in many different waters around the globe, so it seems it’s quite good.

The new colored uv resins make it much easier to mix your favorite Jelly Bean, compared to the work with pigments and flakes, so I guess that’s why people like to play around with them – they get cool results instantly.”

Below are photos of Holger’s Jelly Bean Zonker.
