Picket Pin

Shawn mentions this fly is a Don Bastian fly pattern. Don is a friend of mine and had a wonderful blog for many years that he updated regularly. It is still available, just go to https://donbastianwetflies.com/. There is a lot of really cool flies and information on Don’s site, so be sure to check it out.

From Shawn Holsinger of Holsinger’s Fly Shop:
“The Silver Picket Pin is an old Don Bastian streamer pattern which he tied to imitate a red fin minnow or black nosed dace. This pattern is not a difficult fly to tie and uses materials you probably already have. Swing this fly in a down and across retrieve and hold on. The natural colors of this fly makes it a killer pattern.”

Thanks fiorreviving an old classic. And I appreciate the comment about having fun; that Is what it’s all about.

I’ve done a similar picket pin variant and it works :)… I’m still a sucker for the good old fashioned peacock body version too… Anyone who has not fished the original or a variation like this, go tie some up. the Picket Pin is a FANTASTIC fly!
