Snody’s Bitterroot Stone SBS – Scott Patterson

Fly Tyer Scott Patterson shows how to tie Snody’s Bitterroot Stone. I wasn’t able to find too much about this pattern, but according to Scott it is a pattern he found in a book Bruce Staples’ Flies for the Greater Yellowstone Area.

Materials list:
hook – Dai Riki 280 #10
thread – Danville 6/0 brown
butt/abdomen – dubbing brown/olive
underwing – Congo Hair brown
wing – mottled turkey quill
hackle – grizzly dyed brown
overwing/head – deer hair dyed dark dun

mash barb/start thread, wrap to bend

dub thread/dub butt

tie biot on either side of the thread ball

dub abdomen

tie in CH; trim

coat turkey quill with vinyl cement; separate segment, trim to shape, tie in/trim

tie in hackle, wrap, tie off/trim; leave some space up front for top wing/head

clean, stack, measure (halfway down abdomen) a clump of deer hair; trim/tie in

whip finish, Sally Hanson
