As you can see, this isn’t your basic Stimulator. Erik tied a special body for this baby. When Erik first posted this, I was immediately impressed. The body of this Stimi is cow elk that Erik ribbed with Semperfli floss and Semperfli .2mm Gold wire.
I asked Erik about the body work and this is how he explained it.
“Once I figured out how I wanted it. This is the first fly in a while that I actually undid a couple of times down to the shank to see how I wanted it. Then it was just focusing on the floss to be flat and then I ribbed it with the two wires.
Just had to do it mostly with one hand, because my other hand was pinching the elk hair in place.
I used a couple of hackle pliers to hold tension with the floss and wire until I was ready to go back up. I have a trick I want to try for next time that might make it easier. Basically cross from the tail up using two groups of floss and wire tied in on opposing sides.”
