“It was about 5 years ago while I was fishing the Okanogan River for smallmouth bass that I noticed what the bass were feeding on. Unfortunately, it was salmon smolt that were making their out-river migration. Within a day or two I was thinking of a pattern that would be easy and quick to tie up. So, the Zolt was created. It was been a staple pattern for me when I fish the Okanogan River for smallies. I have also used it in some of the other bass lakes in the area with good results. Since then I have changed the color and size to fish for both bass and trout. Like most of my other minnow patterns I try not to weight them, and I am a firm believer in having eyes on these types of minnow patterns. When I fish these for trout there are times that I will get a hit but no hook up. I have found that sometimes if you stop and do not continue with your retrieve the fish will come back around for a second go at it. Maybe they think they stunned the minnow and are coming back for easy meal. Tie up a couple and you won’t be disappointed.”
